Man charged with sharing child exploitation material after tip-off from US authorities

A man from Adelaide's southern suburbs has been charged with child exploitation offences following a tip-off from authorities in the United States.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) and SA Police raided the 41-year-old man's Torrens Park home after a referral from the US National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children.

An investigation by the SA Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET-SA), led police to identify the alleged offender in South Australia.

Police allege they found a number of devices in the home that were used to store and share child exploitation material to other suspected child sex offenders.

The man was charged with one count of using a carriage service to access child pornography material and three counts of using a carriage service to transmit child pornography material.

He appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court this afternoon.

The charges each carry a maximum penalty of 15 years imprisonment.

Man arrested in separate case

In a separate incident, a man from the eastern suburbs of Adelaide has been arrested for offences which allegedly occurred 17 years ago.

Yesterday, detectives from the Public Prosecution Branch arrested a 55-year-old man for three aggravated counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, indecent assault and persistent sexual abuse of a child.

Police allege the offences occurred in 2002.

The man was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on July 3.

Police have asked members of the public who have any information regarding child exploitation material to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
