A man accused of sexually touching a young girl at a Newcastle shopping centre this week has been granted bail in a Sydney magistrate's court.
The 49-year-old faced Penrith Local Court on Thursday, charged with the intentional sexual touching of a child aged between 10 and 16 following an alleged incident at the Marketown shopping centre in Newcastle West.
Police say an 11-year-old girl was with a family member inside a shop about 2.20pm on Monday when the man allegedly touched the child in a sexual manner.
Police said the man fled and Newcastle police began an investigation.
The 49-year-old handed himself in at St Mary's Police Station a few days later.
As part of the bail conditions, Magistrate Jennifer Giles on Thursday ordered the man to live at a particular Western Sydney address and said he could not enter Newcastle.
He will face court again on August 24, with a brief of evidence to be served by August 13.
