Man charged with sexual assault and launching hammer attack in Regent Street

A man has been charged with attacking and sexually assaulting women in a Friday night attack in Regent Street.

Morteza Ahmadi, 38, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm, two counts of causing actual bodily harm, two counts of sexual assault by touching and for being in possession of the hammer.

Ahmadi is to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Police had said a man used a hammer to hit two women - one aged in her 30s and one in her 20s - in the popular shopping district on Friday night.

They added the man then entered a pub in Glasshouse Street where he is alleged to have hit a man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s.

All were taken to hospital before being discharged.

One of the women and another woman at the scene, who was not injured, also reported they had been sexually assaulted.

The victims were taken to hospital but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police were called to the scene about 11pm.
