A Derby man has been charged with sending racist and homophobic comments to former Nottingham Forest striker Stan Collymore.
Leo Maddocks, of Francis Street, is accused of sending an offensive or indecent message.
It is understood the victim is Collymore, who put up a post on Twitter naming the defendant and implying his own involvement.
The ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa forward used his Twitter account to share screenshots of the messages with Derbyshire Police.
Collymore, 49, also mentioned that he did not want Maddocks to face legal action, and only wanted a sincere apology from him.
The comments were allegedly sent to Collymore over the weekend.
Maddocks was arrested yesterday and charged with sending the message.
He is due in South Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court today.
Collymore spent two years at the City Ground, from 1993 to 1995, before making the move to Anfield.
He made 65 league appearances for the Reds, scoring 41 goals.
