Man charged with running over ex-girlfriend's boyfriend

Feb. 25--A Northwest Side man has been charged with attempted murder after police say he ran over his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend and tried to hit her as well.

Aldo Morua, 41, of the 3000 block of North Oketo Avenue, was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, according to Police News Affairs.

Morua confronted his ex-girlfriend, 47, and her boyfriend, 53, inside a bar in the 5000 block of West Diversey Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

The three got into a fight, and Morua got into his car and hit the woman's boyfriend while he stood at the crosswalk, police said. Morua then backed up and tried to hit the woman, according to police. Morua sped away north on Lavergne Avenue, police said.

The woman's boyfriend suffered critical head and internal injuries and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said.

Gabriel Morales, 32, said he was driving east on Diversey when he saw a man lying in the middle of the street and stopped.

"I called 911 and was trying to help the person there," Morales said. "He wasn't moving or anything."

Morales said he and another car stopped to help out.

Morua is scheduled to appear in Cook County bond court Wednesday.
