Man charged with robbing woman on Northwest Side

March 03--A 27-year-old man was charged Monday with robbing a 19-year-old woman at gunpoint over the weekend on the Northwest Side, authorities said.

Kevin C. Norman, of the 2400 block of North Kilbourn Avenue, was charged with armed robbery, according to police. Norman is expected to appear for a bond hearing Tuesday.

Norman was arrested Saturday after coming up behind the woman, putting her in a chokehold and leading her into an alley while holding a gun to her side, according to a police report.

After taking her cellphone and ID, he kept the gun on her and made her walk through several alleys before stopping and demanding she take off her backpack and place her hands on burglar bars, the report said.

He went through her pockets and took about $100 before saying, "let's go" and leading her to railroad tracks in the 4600 block of West Fullerton Avenue. Police spotted them in the 2400 block of North Kenton Avenue heading up a railroad embankment, and when officers tried to talk to Norman, he "immediately fled on foot,'' the report said.

When police caught up with him a short while later, they found he had the victim's state ID card, an iPhone and $99, authorities said.

The report said Norman "did not know the name of the owner of this property and gave conflicting stories of who this property belonged to." The victim identified him at the scene. He was arrested late Saturday in the 1900 block of North Cicero Avenue.

Norman was arrested multiple times from 2004 through 2012 for drug-related offenses, records show.
