A Joliet man is accused of attempting to rob a Steak ‘n Shake restaurant at gunpoint Thursday in the southwest suburb.
J. J. Amador, 27, was charged with armed robbery for the hold up at the Steak ‘n Shake located in the 2600 block of Plainfield Road, according to a statement by the Joliet Police Department.
About 8:30 a.m., officers responded to the restaurant for reports of a robbery, police said. An investigation found that Amador had ordered food and then asked to use the business’ phone while he waited.
Once off of the phone, he allegedly pulled out a handgun and demanded money, police said. Amador ran off after restaurant staff were unable to get money out of the register. No injuries were reported.
He was arrested at a parking lot in the 3000 block of Plainfield Road, police said. A discarded firearm was allegedly found in the area.
Amador is being held at the Will County Jail and is due in court Friday.
