A man has been charged with raping a woman near London’s Imperial War Museum.

Eleas Alfa Patience Godwin, 43, of no fixed address, has been charged with rape and assault after the attack on Tuesday last week.

A female contacted police and alleged she was raped at about 3am in Tibetan Peace Gardens, which is next to the museum off Lambeth Road in Southwark.

Godwin was charged following a public appeal by detectives for information on the incident.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning.
