Man charged with murdering twin brother pleads not guilty

Police outside a house on Marshall Road at Willunga.

A man charged with murdering his twin brother at their family's home south of Adelaide has pleaded not guilty and will be committed to stand trial.

Lucas Brian Timothy Cawte, 25, allegedly shot his brother Jake in the head at a property on Marshall Road at Willunga in March this year, before handing himself in at the Christies Beach Police Station.

He appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday via video link from mental health facility James Nash House, where he has been remanded.

His lawyer, Thomas Abbott, entered a plea of not guilty on Cawte's behalf and told the court that while he conceded there was a case to answer, issues around mental incompetence had been identified.

Previously, Cawte's family had described the twins as "best friends".

Lucas Cawte will be arraigned in the Supreme Court next month and committed to stand trial at a later date.
