Man charged with murder over woman's body found in wheelie bin

A man has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead in a wheelie bin in East Sussex

Nicola Stevenson's body was discovered by a dog walker on 13 November in a bin in the undergrowth of a recreation ground, police have said. 

Richard Canlin, of no fixed address, has been charged with murder and is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court. 

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Friday, from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: "Despite the charging of a man, we are still desperate to hear from anyone who may be able to add to our investigation timeline. 

"We are urging anyone who saw Nicola before her body was found to come forward to us as you may hold vital information to aid our ongoing investigation.

"For those of you living in local community to Nicola, you will still see our officers out and about conducting enquiries; please do go and speak to them if you have anything to add."

The body has not yet been formally identified but Sussex Police said they are satisfied it is Ms Stevenson, who lived in Stansfield Road, Lewes. 

The victim was found at a recreation ground off Landport Road, East Sussex.

Sussex Police have appealed to anyone with information to report online or call 101 quoting Operation Stafford. 

Another man of no fixed address was arrested on suspicion of murder on 14 November and has been released on bail.
