The man charged with murder was also charged with contravening a domestic violence order.

Northern Territory Police have charged a man with murder over the stabbing death of a 20-year-old woman in Darwin yesterday.

The woman died in the middle of Freshwater Road following an incident near the water gardens in the suburb of Jingili.

Police yesterday said she had been stabbed multiple times at around 11:00am.

A man was arrested about an hour later near a bus stop several streets away.

Today, Warren Dhamarrandji faced the Darwin Local Court charged with murder.

The 36-year-old also has been charged with aggravated assault, going armed in public and engaging in conduct that contravenes a domestic violence order.

No details about the incident were heard in court.

The matter has been adjourned until January 20 next year.

Yesterday, police described the victim as being in her 30s and the man being 34, but today they updated their ages to 20 and 36, respectively.
