Man charged with murder over fatal Cooma stabbing

A man will face court after two men were stabbed, one fatally.

At about 4am on Monday, officers from the Monaro Police District were called to Cooma Hospital after two men went there suffering from stab wounds. The police say one of them then died.

The younger of them - a 19-year-old man - had wounds to his arms. He was treated before being taken to Canberra Hospital where the police say he remains in a stable condition.

The older injured person - a 38-year-old man - had wounds to his abdomen, neck and chest. Police said he died on arrival at the hospital.

About two hours later, a 21-year-old man was arrested in bushland on Shannons Flat Road, Cooma.

He was taken to Cooma Police Station and charged with murder and with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail and is to appear in Cooma Local Court on Tuesday.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
