Man charged with murder of UK's worst paedophile Richard Huckle

A man has been charged with the murder of the UK's worst paedophile Richard Huckle.

Paul Fitzgerald, 29, an inmate at HMP Full Sutton, East Yorkshire, is charged in full connection with the child sex offender's death on October 13.

Huckle, who was reportedly stabbed in his cell with a makeshift blade, was serving 22 life sentences for a campaign of rape against children aged between six months and 12 years in Malaysia.

The freelance photographer, 33, from Ashford, Kent, awarded himself "pedopoints" for abusing 191 children, and sold images of his depravity on the dark web.

In online posts he bragged about Malaysian youths being easier to abuse than those from richer Western backgrounds.

The English tutor used his teaching qualification to gain access to children in an impoverished community where he raped babies, toddlers and children.

Huckle, known as the "gap year paedophile", was intercepted and arrested at Gatwick Airport while arriving to spend Christmas with his family in 2014 after a National Crime Agency operation.

At the time of his arrest, he was writing a manual to teach fellow paedophiles how to carry out child sex offences without detection.

Officers found more than 20,000 indecent images and videos on his encrypted laptop, however they were unable to crack other files.

Humberside Police said Fitzgerald will appear via video link at Beverley Magistrates Court on February 5.
