Man charged with murder of pensioner found with head injuries in Tufnell Park

A man has been charged with murdering a pensioner who was found with a head injury on Monday.

Sable Thomas, 42, of Dalmeny Road, is due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday over the death of 79-year-old Anthony Rooks.

Mr Rooks was found collapsed with a head injury at a property in Dalmeny Road, Tufnell Park, north London, at around 7.20pm on Monday.

An ambulance crew was called but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Neighbours told of their shock at the death in their quiet street.

Iudica Martin, from the nearby Charlie Hotel, said: "There were lots of ambulances and emergency services there.

"It looked serious and we have all been wondering what happened there.

"To find out it’s a murder investigation is a shock. It’s a nice road."
