Man charged with murder of his dad in Dublin on Father's day

A man has been charged with the murder of his dad on Father's day.

Gareth Sheeran, 30, was before Tallaght District court this morning where he was remanded in custody for a week.

His father Harry Sheeran, 65, died late on Sunday night at his home in Carriglea View, Firhouse, Dublin 24.

The court heard Gareth, of the same address, was arrested at Tallaght Garda Station last night at 10.25pm.

And when he was charged with murder by Sergeant Eamon O'Neill at 11.08pm, the accused made no reply.

Det Garda Austin Larkin told the court that the man was handed a true copy of the charge sheet.

The accused cannot apply for bail before the district court because of how serious the charge is and must go to the High Court to do so.

His solicitor Andrew Vallely asked that his client recieve whatever medical attention necessary.
Judge Patricia McNamara told him to liase with the Governor of the prison and that it was important to do so.

The judge also granted legal aid.

He was remanded in custody at Cloverhill Prison.

And will appear again at Cloverhill District Court on June 29 via video link.
