A man faces a murder charge in connection with a shooting in the Loop last summer that left a man dead and a woman wounded.

Charles James, 31, is also charged with four felony counts of attempted first-degree murder in the incident which took place July 19 in the 300 block of North Wabash Avenue, Chicago police said.

About 2:35 a.m. that day, 35-year-old Gregory Crawford and a woman flagged down officers, saying they had been shot on that block and asked for medical attention, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Gregory had a gunshot wound to his neck and later died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, authorities said. The woman, 25, suffered gunshot wounds to her arms.

James was arrested Friday in the 1100 block of South Oakley Boulevard, police said.

He is expected to appear at a bond hearing Sunday.
