A Lockport man is facing murder charges in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this year in Joliet.
Dartavius Payton, 24, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon in the April 28 incident, Joliet police said.
That day, officers in the area of 5th Avenue and Sherman Street about 9 p.m. heard gunshots nearby and found a 20-year-old man with fatal gunshot wounds in the 300 block of Grant Avenue, police said.
Payton was identified as a suspect in the shooting, and authorities obtained a warrant for his arrest, police said.
About 11 a.m. Sunday, the Grundy County sheriff’s office notified Joliet police that a deputy arrested Payton in the 2500 block of East Stellon Street in rural Diamond, police said.
Payton is being held at the Will County Jail on $2.5 million bail and is due back in court July 23.
