Man charged with murder in connection with alleged fatal stabbing in South Dublin

A man has been charged with murder in connection with an alleged fatal stabbing in south Dublin last year.

Andrew Lacey, 32, of Riverside, Loughlinstown made no reply when he was charged with the murder of Derek Reddin.

Mr Reddin, 31, died after being stabbed in an incident at the junction of Loughlinstown Drive and Cherry Court in the southside suburb around midnight on October 15 last year.

The accused appeared at a sitting of Dun Laoghaire District Court shortly after 10.30am.

He had been arrested on Sunday and was brought to Dun Laoghaire Garda station where he was charged by prosecuting officer Detective Garda Stephen Ryan.

Dressed in a grey top and t-shirt, jeans and white runners, he was brought the short distance to appear before Judge Ann Watkin.

He didn’t speak during the brief hearing.

His legal representative Rob Crowley for Niall O’Connor solicitors applied for free legal aid.

Judge Watkin remanded Mr Lacey in custody to appear via videolink before Cloverhill District Court again this Friday.
