A man is due to appear in court charged with murder after an incident in New Brighton on New Year's Day.
Officers were called to flats in Rakersfield Road on Wednesday at 10.25pm by paramedics who were treating a man for a stab wound to the chest .
The victim, Mark Roberts, 52, was taken to Wirral's Arrowe Park Hospital where he died a short while later.
A large police presence could be seen around the flats following the incident, as police dogs and officers searched the area.
A Home Office Post Mortem on Thursday confirmed Mr Roberts, from New Brighton, died from a single stab wound.
Merseyside Police confirmed today that Ian Martyn Holden, 38, of Rakersfield Road, New Brighton was charged with murder today (Saturday 4 January).
He has been remanded in custody to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court on Monday (6 January).
