A man has been charged with murder after the discovery of a woman's body in bushland in Sydney's north-west.

Police believe the body is that of Shereen Kumar, who was reported missing from her Dural home on Thursday morning.

Police found the body of a woman in bushland off Laurie Road, Dural, at about 5:50pm on Saturday.

The body is yet to be formally identified, but is believed to be that of 43-year-old Ms Kumar.

At about 11:30pm on Saturday, police arrested 37-year-old Vincent Carlino at a home on Taylors Road in Dural.

He was taken to Hornsby police station and charged with murder.

Mr Carlino was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.

He appeared briefly in court, where he did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

Outside court, Mr Carlino's lawyer Elias Tabchouri said he was still waiting to see the full police case against his client.

Mr Tabchouri said police will allege Mr Carlino killed Ms Kumar "very recently".

"Clearly these are very serious matters and it's still early on in the proceedings," he said.

"At this stage I don't have any instructions other than to wait for the evidence and go from there."

Mr Carlino will be remanded in custody and is due face court again on September 13.
