Man charged with murder after new mother found dead near Wollongong

A former employee of a new mother found covered in blood inside her Bellambi home, south of Sydney, has been charged with murder.

A friend found Kristie Powell's lifeless body outside her bedroom early Friday morning.

On Saturday, NSW Police said they wanted to speak to 29-year-old Bhanu Kirkman in relation to the alleged murder.

Yesterday he was arrested on outstanding warrants in Maitland, a three-hour drive from the crime scene.

Mr Kirkman has been refused bail and is due to face court today.

The ABC is not able to report some details of the case due to legal restrictions.
