A man has been charged with murder after a triple stabbing in Uxbridge, west London, police have said.
Safi Dawood, 22, was charged with the murder of a 49-year-old man and the attempted murders of another man, 45, and a 14-year-old boy. He will appear on Thursday at Westminster magistrates court.
Dawood was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
The Metropolitan police said they had been called at about 5pm on Monday 27 October to Midhurst Gardens in the west London suburb.
Paramedics tried to save the 49-year-old man, whom police named as Wayne Broadhurst, but he died after suffering multiple stab wounds.
The Met said that Dawood also lived in Midhurst Gardens and that he did not know Broadhurst, the man he is accused of stabbing to death, or the two other people whom he is alleged to have stabbed, who both survived.
After announcing the charging of Dawood for murder, the Met said: “Dawood was assessed when he entered custody and later required hospital treatment after suffering a medical episode. He has since returned to police custody, where he remains ahead of his court appearance.”
The case has attracted a high degree of interest, in part because Dawood is an Afghan national who came to the UK and claimed asylum.
The Met said: “We are aware of speculation on social media around this investigation and would remind media and the public not to share anything that could impede future court proceedings.”
After the incident, Ch Supt Jill Horsfall said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time.
“The incident will have understandably caused concern to the local community. I have deployed multiple officers to the local area, they will be here throughout the week to provide reassurance while detectives work intensely to piece together the circumstances.”
