Man charged with murder after Melbourne restaurant brawl

There were about 30 people at the restaurant at the time of the stabbing.

A man who allegedly stabbed another man to death during a brawl at a function in Melbourne's west has appeared in court.

At a brief hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court, Milos Novakovic, 29, of Caroline Springs faced charges of murder, affray and aggravated burglary.

Police alleged Novakovic gatecrashed a private function at the Korzo Grill House restaurant on Gourlay Street in Caroline Springs with several other associates and murdered 31-year-old Deni Dimovski who was attending an event there on Saturday.

Police said Novakovic stabbed the victim to death after a brawl broke out in the venue after 2:00am.

It is believed at least 30 people were in the venue at the time of the stabbing.

The victim was treated for stab wounds by paramedics but died at the scene.

The court heard that Novakovic would not be applying for bail.

He appeared calm throughout the brief hearing.

He will remain in custody and is set to appear in court again on February 12 next year.
