A man has been charged with the murder of a camper found dead in a Merseyside park.

Nathan James Muat, 45, is accused of killing Peter Seeclear, also 45, while he was on a fishing trip at Stadt Moers Park in the village of Whiston.

Mr Seeclear, of Toxeth, Liverpool, had been camping with a friend when he died on 30 October. Police have not revealed if Muat, also of Toxeth, was the friend in question.

Initial enquiries suggested the death was non-suspicious but a post-mortem later identified the cause as severe traumatic chest injuries.

Merseyside Police had appealed for any members of the public who may have seen the alleged victim in Stadt Moers Park between 28-30 October to make themselves known to the force.

Detective Chief Inspector Richie Jones said: “Peter's family are devastated by their loss and I would urge anyone who has information which could assist our investigation to come forward.”
