Man charged with murder after body found in house after fire

Emergency crews were called to a blaze in Rivett Street on about 8:00pm on Sunday.

A 29-year-old man has been charged with murder after a body was found inside a fire-damaged house at Toowoomba on Queensland's Darling Downs.

Emergency crews were called to a blaze in Rivett Street about 8:00pm on Sunday.

The body of a 63-year-old man was later discovered inside, along with the body of a dog.

Police said the alleged offender was detained a short time later at a nearby residence.

During the arrest, the man allegedly headbutted a police officer.

The 29-year-old man, from Toowoomba, has been charged with one count of murder, misconduct with a corpse, arson, enter dwelling with intent, serious assault police, and serious animal cruelty.

The man appeared in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was remanded to appear again on February 18.
