Man charged with murder after allegedly setting brother on fire

Police allege a 22-year-old threw petrol on the man and set him alight.

A man has been charged with murder after allegedly throwing petrol on his brother and setting him alight at a house on Queensland's Gold Coast early on Saturday morning.

Emergency services found 26-year-old Reece Clarke severely burned on the deck of his home on Bushmead Street at Nerang, after being called out at 1:30am.

He was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in Brisbane, where he died a short time later.

His brother, 22-year-old Ethan Clarke who also lives at the property, has been charged with murder and will front the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police allege Ethan Clarke threw petrol on his brother and set him alight.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Procter said the burns to the man were horrific.

"Obviously it's a very traumatic day for [the family], and anyone who attended the address — it's a horrific event," he said.

"It's early days, it's only been a few hours, so we're going through it now as to how it happened and why it happened."

The investigation is continuing.
