Emergency services were called to Coburg Wharf at 8.05pm on Friday, October 15, following reports a man in his 70s had been attacked. Mr Williams Senior was taken to hospital in a critical but stable condition as Merseyside Police cordoned off a significant area while detectives launched an investigation.

That cordon surrounded The Yacht Club restaurant, its car park and a section of pavement along South Ferry Quay. It was later confirmed that Mr Williams Senior had died in hospital on October 21.

Peers was not asked to enter a plea and will appear at Liverpool Crown Court on March 8.
