Man charged with killing mom on Christmas Eve, leaving body in garbage can near home

CHICAGO _ A man has been charged with killing his mother on Christmas Eve and leaving her body in a garbage can about half a mile from her home on the Far South Side, according to Chicago police.

Betty Wallace, 67, was found by Streets and Sanitation workers on Monday afternoon while working in the 10800 block of South Prospect Avenue in the Morgan Park neighborhood, police said.

She had stab wounds on her legs and blunt trauma injuries to her face, authorities said.

Robert Wallace, 25, was taken into custody hours later and was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder. He was due in court Thursday.

Wallace lives in the 10500 block of South Church Street, the same as his mother, authorities said.
