Man charged with killing baby daughter more than two years after death

The girl was taken to Whyalla Hospital with serious injuries.

Police have charged a Mount Gambier man with killing his baby daughter, more than two years after she died.

Police arrested the 30-year-old today.

They said the baby was presented at Whyalla Hospital not breathing and with serious injuries on June 5, 2016, when she was six weeks old.

She was resuscitated and transferred to Adelaide's Women's and Children's Hospital where she died on November 25, 2017.

Major Crime and Whyalla detectives conducted a lengthy investigation that resulted in the arrest today, SA Police said.

The man, who has been charged with manslaughter, is expected to appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on Friday.

After the girl's death in 2017, Detective Inspector Greg Hutchins said she had suffered a "significant" brain injury and limb fractures, and had needed around-the-clock care.

Police have asked anyone with more information about the girl's death to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
