Man charged with intentional strangulation after woman assaulted

A man has been arrested and charged with a number of domestic violence offences.

On Saturday 26 November last year Merseyside Police received a report that a woman had been repeatedly assaulted by a man at a house in Prescot.

John Williams, aged 23 of Johnson Avenue in the town was charged with four counts of domestic violence offences, two counts of witness intimidation, controlling and coercive behaviour, false imprisonment, intentional strangulation and criminal damage. He was remanded in custody to appear before magistrates in Liverpool today.

Police have issued general advice to people who suffer domestic abuse. If you are in immediate danger, always call 999. If you are not in a safe position to speak to the police then cough or tap the phone and press 55 when prompted. This will alert the operator that you need assistance.
