A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Nathaniel Armstrong, a cousin of the Good Morning Britain weather presenter Alex Beresford.

Lovel Bailey, 29, allegedly stabbed to death Armstrong, also 29, in Fulham, west London, on 16 March.

He was arrested at Gatwick on Tuesday and appeared at Westminster magistrates court on Wednesday.

Family members of Armstrong, including his father, sat in the packed public gallery during the five-minute hearing.

The alleged incident happened during an argument between Armstrong and the defendant, the court heard.

The district judge, Michael Snow, remanded Bailey to appear at the Old Bailey on 9 April.

Beresford had described his cousin as a “bright young man” and “yet one more example of a needless life lost to knife crime”.

The killing happened 11 days after the presenter spoke out about knife crime on Good Morning Britain.

Armstrong died in Gowan Avenue, the same street on which the TV presenter Jill Dando was murdered 20 years ago.
