Man charged with firearms offences after incident in Beith

A man has been charged with firearms offences in connection with an incident in Ayrshire last week.

George McKnight, 28, was remanded in custody during a hearing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

McKnight, of Kilwinning, Ayrshire, faces two charges under the Firearms Act 1968, as well as two assault charges and a robbery charge.

McKnight made no plea to the five charges during the private hearing where he was remanded in custody by Sheriff Elizabeth McFarlane, and the case against him was continued for prosecutors to investigate further.

No future court dates have been set but a second hearing is expected to take place next week.

It comes after an incident in Hawthorn Crescent in Beith when a 53-year-old woman and 19-year-old man were allegedly targeted in the early hours of the morning.
