A Waukegan man charged with fatally shooting a husband and wife in December in north suburban Beach Park could face life in prison.

Timothy Triplett, 34, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the Dec. 8 deaths of Carlos Rodas Perez and Mercedes Rodas, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s office said in a statement.

That day, officers found Perez, 52, and Rodas, 49, with gunshot wounds in the garage of a home in the 10000 block of West Wadsworth Road and were pronounced dead at the scene, prosecutors said.

Triplett was arrested and charged Jan. 13 after he was identified as the person who shot the couple, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors announced last Thursday that they may seek a sentence of life in prison.

Triplett is being held at Lake County Jail on a $5 million bail and is scheduled for arraignment Monday.

“I commend the Sheriff’s Office on their thorough investigation,” Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said. “Because of their outstanding work, we feel confident that we will achieve justice for the two victims in this senseless homicide. Our continued condolences to the Rodas family.”
