Man charged with failure to register as sex offender

Anthony Hatley | Chicago police department

A North Side man convicted of sexually assaulting someone nearly 20 years ago has been charged with failing to comply with his sex offender registration.

Anthony Hatley, 58, faces one felony count of failure to register as a sex offender, Chicago police said. He lives in Uptown.

He was taken into custody at 2:09 p.m. Wednesday after barricading himself inside a building in the 2500 block of North Bosworth Avenue, police said. Following his arrest, police determined he’d failed to register as a sex offender.

Hatley was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual assault with a weapon when he was 39, according to the Illinois Sex Offender Registry. The victim was 18 at the time.

He is expected to appear in bond court Saturday, police said.
