Man charged with ex-girlfriend's murder released on bail

Jayden Morrea (formerly Dan Shearin) must hand over his passport and wear a GPS tracking device.

A 45-year-old man accused of throwing his ex-girlfriend from a Gold Coast high-rise balcony six years ago has been released on bail under what a Supreme Court judge described as the "most stringent" conditions.

Jayden Moorea, who legally changed his name from Dan Shearin, was last month charged with the murder of 21-year-old Breeana Robinson.

The former Gold Coast Titans cheerleader died after falling from the 11th storey of Mr Moorea's apartment in Southport in 2013.

He is also facing charges of fraud and damaging evidence with intent in relation to the murder.

The prosecution told the court Mr Moorea was a flight risk because he had no ties to Queensland and had international connections due to his previous work on cruise ships.

The prosecutor also argued Mr Moorea was a risk of reoffending and interfering with witnesses from separate stalking offences, but his defence lawyer, Angus Edwards, argued the reasons for refusing his bail were "overstated" by the crown and the police.

When granting him bail, Justice Mullins said she accepted Mr Moorea had "difficulty" dealing with women.

"Particularly when a relationship with a woman ends," she said.

Justice Mullins said Mr Moorea's criminal history, which included stalking offences, was "relevant but limited" and rejected the prosecution's reasons for refusing bail.

Mr Moorea will be subject to a number of conditions, including wearing a GPS tracking device, a curfew from 8:00pm to 5:00am and no access to any social media platforms.

Other conditions include not being able to start a sexual relationship with any women until he has notified police and the woman of his bail conditions.

He must also surrender his passport and report to police six days a week.
