A man has been charged with a hit-and-run crash that injured another driver last year in northwest suburban Elgin.

Scott M. Brown, 42, is charged with a felony count of failure to report an accident with injuries for the Dec. 2, 2019, crash at Summit Street and Preston Avenue in Elgin, according to a statement from the Kane County state’s attorney’ s office. He also faces a misdemeanor count of driving an uninsured vehicle.

Brown was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe that morning when it hit another vehicle in the intersection, injuring the other driver, prosecutors said. Brown didn’t stop or report the crash.

Elgin police were notified seven weeks later that Brown reported his SUV was damaged in a Dec. 6 crash, prosecutors said. An investigation revealed it was a Dec. 2 crash.

Brown remains free on $1,000 bail and is due back in court March 11, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
