Man charged with DUI two days after being paroled

Dec. 08--A Homan Square man was arrested Saturday night and charged with aggravated DUI after prosecutors say he crashed his vehicle, injuring four teens before fleeing the scene, just two days after being paroled from prison.

Edward S. Williams, 40, was paroled Thursday after serving roughly 18 months of a three-year sentence for a 2013 conviction in a stolen vehicle case, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections website.

Police received a call about a vehicle accident Saturday night in the 1500 block of East 82nd Street in Avalon Park, according to Cook County court records.

Bystanders told officers that the driver involved in the accident had fled northbound up an alley, court records state.

Four 15 and 16-year-olds were taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where they were treated and released with minor injuries, according to court records.

At least one, a 16-year-old girl, was riding with Williams at the time of the accident, court records state.

The fleeing vehicle was leaking fluid, and police followed the fluid trail a few blocks west to the 8100 block of South Kimbark Avenue, where they found Williams and the 2006 Dodge Durango, according to court records.

The girl who had been riding with Williams told police he had been driving at the time of the crash, according to court records, and Williams admitted being the driver when asked by police.

Police could smell alcohol on Williams' breath, according to court records, and his eyes were bloodshot.

He later submitted to a Breathalyzer test and had a blood alcohol concentration of .14, nearly twice the legal limit, according to court records.

Cook County Judge Joseph Panarese did not set a bond for Williams on Sunday in court, opting instead for electronic monitoring.

Williams, of the 3200 block of West Arthington Street, also faces misdemeanor charges of leaving the scene of an accident, DUI and having no driver's license, according to court records. He was also cited for driving without insurance.
