Nov. 29--A St. Charles woman died Friday night after a man charged with driving under the influence crossed a center median in the west suburban city and struck her car head-on, according to the St. Charles Police Department.
Susan Gorecki, 65, of Green Willow Lane in St. Charles, died at Delnor Hospital in Geneva as a result of injuries suffered in the crash that occurred about 2:05 p.m. near the intersection of Illinois Route 31 and Timbers Trail, police said.
Joshua E. Spudich, 23, of the 400 block of South Second Street in St. Charles, was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe southbound on Second Street when it drifted across the center median and struck Gorecki's northbound Toyota Corolla head-on, the police said a preliminary investigation showed.
Spudich was initially treated and released by medics at the scene and then later transported to Delnor Hospital and treated and released for minor injuries, police said.
Spudich has been charged with four counts of aggravated driving under the influence, one count of possession of a controlled substance, one count of driving under the influence of drugs, one count of driving while license revoked and one count of improper lane usage, police said.
Police did not make other details about the crash immediately available.
