Man charged with double murder after Sydney stabbings

Emergency services on the scene in the Sydney suburb of Cartwright.

A man has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing two people in a neighbourhood dispute in Sydney's south-west.

The alleged attack happened at an apartment complex in Cartwright at about 4.00pm yesterday.

A man in his forties who suffered stab wounds was treated by paramedics at the scene but could not be saved.

A woman, believed to be 34, was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition but died a short time later.

Both victims are yet to be formally identified.

Police said they were investigating whether an axe was used as a weapon.

A 34-year-old man, who was arrested at the scene, has been charged with two counts of murder.

He has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Liverpool Local Court tomorrow.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
