A Romeoville man is facing multiple charges after he crashed into several structures causing a short power outage Wednesday in Suburban St. Charles.

Juan Arreola, 28, of Romeoville has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt, St. Charles police said.

About 1:05 a.m., police and fire officials responded to calls of a vehicle that crashed into a building in the 400 block of East Main Street, police said. After an investigation, officers found that a 2019 Kia was driving westbound in the 500 block of East Main Street when it drifted into oncoming traffic and off the road.

Arreola, the only occupant of the vehicle, then crashed into a traffic light and an electric box in the intersection of East Main Street and South 5th Avenue, police said. The vehicle continued on before coming to a rest against a commercial building a short distance away.

Arreola had to be pulled from the vehicle and was rushed to Delnor Hospital in Geneva in critical condition, police said. He has since been stabilized.

He was released from custody but remains hospitalized, police said.
