Man charged with culpable driving over fatal three-car crash in Melbourne's west

A 10-year-old girl died at the scene, and a 4-year-old boy died later in hospital.

A man has been charged following a fatal three-car collision in Melbourne's west on Sunday morning.

Police allege the man, who was driving a Ford Territory, overtook a Honda SUV shortly before colliding head-on with a Ford Focus about 12:00am on Hopkins Road, Truganina.

The Territory then also collided with the Honda SUV.

A 10-year-old girl who was riding in the Ford Focus died at the scene of the collision.

A 4-year-old boy from the same vehicle died in hospital on Monday evening.

The female driver of the Ford Focus remains in hospital in a critical condition, while an adult male passenger has been released from hospital.

The 41-year-old male driver and sole occupant of the Ford Territory was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Rockbank man who remains in hospital, was charged this evening with negligence causing serious injury and two counts of culpable driving.

The five occupants of the Honda SUV were not injured in the crash.
