Man charged with conspiracy to murder Hutch associate Gary Hanley

A man has been charged with conspiracy to murder Hutch associate Gary Hanley two-years-ago.

Dean Howe, 34, of Oakfield Place, Dublin 8 was charged with conspiracy to murder Hanley at a location within the State between September 15 and November 6, 2017.

His charge under Section 71 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006 also names his alleged accomplices as Alan Wilson, Luke Wilson, Liam Brannigan and Joseph Kelly.

Detective Garda Brian McDermott gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution to the court.

Howe stood in the dock to the right of the court wearing a blue/green tracksuit top - he did not speak during the hearing.

Det Gda McDermott said that he arrested the accused at Irishtown Garda Station and witnessed as he was charged by a fellow officer.

He made no reply to the charge when he was cautioned by the garda.

Det Gda McDermott made an application to remand Howe in custody to appear before Clover Hill District Court on May 22 next.

Judge Bryan Smith granted the application and directed that the hearing be heard via video link at 10am.

Howe’s solicitor also made an application for legal aid as he said his client was unemployed.

There was no objection from the State and Judge Smith granted the request.
