CHICAGO _ A 32-year-old Coal City man has been named in a warrant charging him with concealment of a homicide in the shooting death of a 24-year-old New Lenox Township woman, officials said Friday.
Kankakee County State's Attorney Jim Rowe confirmed that Jeremy Boshears is being charged in the death of Kaitlyn Kearns, whose body was discovered this week in a rural part of the county. An arrest warrant lists his bail at $250,000
Attorney Neil Patel, who said he is representing Boshears, said his client is in custody in Will County and must still be served the arrest warrant and transferred to Kankakee County to appear before a judge. Patel did not have a court date as of early Friday afternoon.
Will County sheriff's investigators on Thursday said they had one "person of interest" in the case.
The concealment charge is a Class 4 felony and could carry a sentence of probation or up to three years in prison if convicted.
"It's an ongoing investigation and other charges are possible," said Will County State's Attorney Spokesman Charles Pelkie, who also confirmed the concealment charge.
Kearns, who had been missing since early Monday after tending bar, was found dead in a rural part of Kankakee County during an overnight search, the Will County sheriff's office said Thursday. Kearns had been shot once in the head, the Kankakee County coroner's office determined.
Kearns' father had reported her missing Tuesday, police said. She was last seen early Monday after working at Woody's Bar in Joliet, according to a news release.
Will County sheriff's office SWAT officers executed a search warrant Thursday morning at the Outlaws Motorcycle Club clubhouse, which is nearby, in Kearns' death, Will County sheriff's spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said. Officers took a vehicle from the clubhouse after the search, Hoffmeyer said.
