Man charged with child cruelty after death of baby girl

Jason Michael Bowman has been charged with leaving a child unattended and child cruelty.

A man facing charges, including child cruelty, following the death of a four-month-old baby at Logan last year intends to fight some of the allegations.

The infant girl was taken to Logan Hospital in November with life-threatening injuries.

She was then transferred to the Queensland Children's Hospital in Brisbane in a critical condition, but died the following day.

Detectives launched an investigation — codenamed Operation Quebec Lugano — with officers from the Logan Child Protection and Investigation Unit and State Crime Command's Homicide and Child Trauma.

Jason Michael Bowman, 37, was last month charged with leaving a child unattended and child cruelty.

He appeared in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court today, where he indicated he would challenge one of the charges.

Asked outside court which charge that was, he replied: "It's none of your business."

It comes a month after his de facto partner and the baby's aunt, 35-year-old Sandra Leigh Houston, was charged with murder.

Her lawyer Robert Burns told media at the time Ms Houston was the child's aunt and guardian, and the girl's mother had died a few months ago.
