A man is accused of jumping into a person’s vehicle and driving off Sunday in suburban Aurora.

Jesse Valenciano, 40, was charged with felony vehicular hijacking, possessing a stolen motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident, Aurora police said.

The driver of the vehicle Valenciano allegedly stole was dropping something off at a home while a passenger waited inside, police said.

Valenciano allegedly walked up to the vehicle, got into the driver’s seat and demanded the passenger get out before taking off, police said.

After fleeing, Valenciano was spotted swerving “all over the road” before crashing about 1 p.m. into an unoccupied vehicle near the intersection of Liberty and Trask streets, police said.

Valenciano tried to drive off but the car was too damaged and he ran instead, police said. One of the carjacking victims chased after him, and the two were found struggling on the ground when officers arrived.

Valenciano is being held at the Kane County Jail on $100,000 bail, according to county records. He is due back in court Friday.
