Men charged with murder, other charges after Brisbane teen's Surfers Paradise balcony death

Three men charged with the murder of Cian English, 19, have had their cases mentioned in court this morning.

Lachlan Soper-Lagas, 18, did not appear via video link in Beenleigh Magistrates Court today when his charges — one count of murder, two counts of armed robbery and two of deprivation of liberty — were briefly mentioned.

Jason Knowles, 22, and Hayden Kratzmann, 20, are facing the same charges but did not appear when their matters were briefly mentioned in the Roma Street Magistrates Court in Brisbane this morning.

Gold Coast police were called to an apartment complex in Surfers Paradise in the early hours of Saturday morning where Mr English's body was found at the base of the building.

They allege that, prior to his death, a group of people from one unit went to another unit armed with a knife, and a robbery occurred.

It's alleged Mr English was trying to escape the robbery when he fell to his death from the fourth floor.

Mr Soper-Lagas's case will be mentioned again tomorrow while Mr Knowles and Mr Kratzmann had their matters adjourned for a committal hearing in Southport Magistrates Court on August 4.
