A man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder over a shooting in Adelaide's north-western suburbs that left another man with leg injuries.

Police received reports of gunshots about 12:30pm on Thursday and cordoned off the scene on Owen Street at Woodville North.

Nearby residents said they heard a man "screaming in agony".

A 45-year-old man later presented at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with gunshot wounds to his legs.

He was later transferred to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident sparked a search for the shooter, and police today arrested a man in connection with the incident.

Western District detectives this morning took the 38-year-old Woodville Park man into custody and charged him with attempted murder.

"Police wish to reassure the local community that this was not a random incident and the people involved are believed to be known to each other," an SA Police spokesperson said in a statement.

The Woodville Park man was refused police bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.
