A man has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in South Australia's mid north.

SA Police said officers were called to a home in Clare on Thursday evening after reports of a violent disturbance.

Police found the victim, a 39-year-old woman, with a stab wound to the neck and a 42-year-old man with stab wounds to his abdomen.

The woman sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the Clare Hospital for treatment.

The man remains in the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he is receiving treatment for serious injuries.

He has been charged with attempted murder, threats to kill and aggravated assault.

He has been refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today via a bedside hearing.

Police described the disturbance as a "domestic incident" and have said both parties are known to each other.
