A 21-year-old man who allegedly shot his younger brother at their family home in Lockleys in Adelaide's west yesterday has been remanded in custody.
Dimitri Gatis faced the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court this afternoon charged with attempted murder, firearms offences and trafficking in a controlled drug.
Mr Gatis is accused of shooting his 16-year-old younger brother Alex Gatis twice in the abdomen by firing through the window of their Malurus Avenue home in Lockleys.
Alex was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Mr Gatis made no application for bail and is expected to face court again next month.
Emergency crews were called to the house about 9:30am on Monday where they found Alex with a gunshot wound to his stomach.
Senior Constable Peter Williams said police believed it was not a random incident.
"We do wish to reassure the community this is not a random incident, but anyone who might be able to assist the investigation is asked to contact Crime Stoppers," Senior Constable Williams said.
Yesterday, the victim's uncle, Jim Gatis, said the boy's parents — who are about to fly back to Adelaide — were in shock.
"All we know is that Alex [the shooting victim] is a really good kid and he's never been involved in anything bad," he said.
"That's all we know, other than that we don't know anything, the police haven't told us anything yet."
Students at nearby Lockleys North Primary School were told to stay inside but police said the school was not in lockdown.
