Man charged with attempted murder after trying to push teen off balcony

Other residents in Festival Towers raised the alarm with police.

A man has been remanded in custody on an attempted murder charge for allegedly trying to kill a teenage woman by pushing her over a high-rise balcony in a domestic violence incident in Brisbane.

Police alleged the 39-year-old tried to push the 18-year-old woman over a seventh-floor balcony in an apartment at Festival Tower on Albert Street in the CBD about 10:00pm.

Officers were called to the building when other residents in the building raised the alarm.

The woman suffered facial injuries and was taken to hospital.

The man was refused bail and his case is due before court again on August 24.

He has been charged with attempted murder (domestic violence offence), assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offence) and possession of a drug utensil.

A police prosecutor told the ABC a witness described seeing two people on the balcony, but could not identify who was being pushed.

The prosecutor said the man had denied the charges.
